Grandmother Maria Dreir - Maria Dreir (10) - born in Rhodenburg, Germany; spoke Platt Deutch. Was a short woman, had a good head for business. Could sew. Both her parents lived in Germany. Her siblings unknown. She came to U.S. in a sailing ship; 90 day trip was very difficult so swore never to go back. Came first to Manhatten, then to Brooklyn. Financially comfortable, owned confectionary store. Died at age 89 of a heart attack. Her brother came to America also, lived in New Jersey. Maria liked to bake bread. Was a sweet old lady. Had two husbands.
